The Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) has released the Group 1 notification for the Comprehensive Civil Service Examination 2026 on its official website. The notification was issued on June 23, 2026, for recruitment to several Group-I posts, including Deputy Collector, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Assistant Commissioner (Commercial Taxes), Assistant Director of Rural Development, District Employment Officer and Assistant Commissioner of Labour.The TNPSC Group 1 preliminary examination is scheduled to be held on September 6, 2026. Candidates interested in joining Tamil Nadu Administrative Services can apply online through the official website.The notice shows that online registration will begin on June 30, 2026, and the last date for submitting applications and paying fees is July 29, 2026. The commission has not released the number of vacancies yet.The recruitment process is conducted in three stages – preliminary examination, interview and interview. Candidates must qualify in each stage to advance to the next round. Final selection will be based on performance in the main examination and interview.Candidates applying for the examination must hold a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university. Some positions have additional preference criteria based on educational qualifications and experience.The minimum age to apply is 21 years. The upper age limit varies depending on the position and category. For most posts, the maximum age for general category candidates is 34 years and for reserved category candidates is 39 years. Age relaxation as per TNPSC rules.Candidates must also meet the prescribed physical standards regarding height, chest circumference and weight for the posts of Deputy Superintendent of Police and District Officer (Fire and Rescue Services).The application fee includes a one-time registration fee of Rs 150 and is valid for five years. Candidates will also have to pay Rs 100 for the preliminary exam and Rs 200 for the main exam. Certain categories, including SC, SC(A), ST, Benchmark Disabled Persons and Poor Widows, are exempted from paying examination fees.The preliminary test consists of 200 objective questions, with a maximum score of 300 points, and the test time is three hours. Candidates who qualify in the primary stage will appear for the main examination, which includes the Tamil qualifying test and three general knowledge papers. The recruitment process will end with an interview, which will be scored out of 100 points.The selected candidates will be placed under pay grade 22 and will receive a salary ranging from Rs 56,100 to Rs 2,05,700, along with other government allowances and benefits.
