Tata Motors adds to the excitement around the upcoming Sierra EV, which is slated to make its India debut on June 30. In its latest teaser, the automaker showcased an electric SUV battling massive sand dunes. A new teaser hints that the Sierra EV will take on the famous Tel Moreeb dune in Abu Dhabi. Over 300 meters high with a slope of about 50 degrees, Tel Moreeb is considered one of the highest sand dunes in the world. If the teaser is anything to go by, Tata is trying to prove that the Sierra EV can combine everyday usability with real off-road capability.The teaser also offers another look at the production specification of the Sierra EV. While the overall silhouette remains similar to the ICE version, the electric version gets a few EV-specific styling updates. At the front, the traditional grille gives way to a closed panel in body color that runs across the nose. Linked LED DRLs sit above the main headlight units, while vertically stacked LED fog lights are also seen.At the rear, the Sierra EV features a full-width LED light bar, rugged bumper trim and a silver skid plate. One of the biggest highlights confirmed by the latest teaser is Tata’s four-wheel drive (QWD) technology. A dual-motor AWD configuration is expected to be reserved for higher variants, while lower trims are likely to get a single-motor configuration.On the inside, the Sierra EV is expected to be positioned as one of Tata Motors’ most premium electric offerings. Lower variants could get a dual-screen setup, while higher-end models could get a triple screen similar to the ICE-powered Sierra. Expected features include a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control, wireless phone charging, a power tailgate and a 360-degree camera. Tata will also likely offer connected car technology, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with a 12-speaker JBL audio system with Dolby Atmos support.The Sierra EV is expected to sit between the Curvv EV and the Harrier EV in Tata’s EV portfolio. More battery pack options are likely, including 55kWh and 65kWh units, while top-of-the-line variants could borrow the larger 75kWh battery pack from the Harrier EV. Tata may also extend its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) program to the Sierra EV, allowing customers to purchase the vehicle separately from the battery and opt for a battery subscription plan.When launched, the Sierra EV will take on rivals such as the Mahindra BE 6, Hyundai Creta Electric and Maruti Suzuki e Vitara.
