Tata Sierra EV launch tomorrow: Boost Mode, AWD, expected range and more

Tata Motors is all set to launch the much-awaited Sierra EV in India tomorrow, June 30. The electric SUV will debut in an all-new avatar and will sit between the Curvv EV and Harrier EV in the company’s growing line-up of electric vehicles. Ahead of its debut, Tata has released several teasers that reveal key details about the SUV’s design, cabin, technology and performance.

Tata Sierra EV: Everything we know so far

One of the biggest highlights comes from the latest teaser, which hints at the Sierra EV’s driving range. The digital instrument panel shows 424 km of remaining range with the battery charged to 80 percent. Although Tata Motors is yet to release official figures, the display suggests that the SUV could offer a range of over 500 km on a full charge. The latest teaser also revealed the cabin with more details. The Sierra EV has a modern dashboard layout and a two-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated Tata EV logo. Another interesting addition is the dedicated Boost Mode, which can be activated using a physical button on the center console. This feature is expected to temporarily unlock maximum power and torque. The SUV will also come with multiple off-road modes. In one of the teaser videos shot at the Tal Moreeb Sand Dunes in Abu Dhabi, the driver’s display shows Sand Mode in action, indicating that the Sierra EV has been developed to handle a variety of road conditions.Tata Motors has already confirmed that the Sierra EV will be offered with an all-wheel drive option. Higher variants are expected to feature the company’s dual-motor four-wheel drive, first introduced on the Harrier EV, while lower variants are likely to use a single electric motor driving one axle.

Tata Sierra EV: Cabin and features

The Sierra EV is expected to be equipped with premium features. The lower-end variants could get a dual-screen dashboard look, while the top-end variants are likely to get a triple-screen display similar to the recently launched ICE Sierra. Other expected equipment includes a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control, wireless phone charging, power tailgate, 360-degree camera, connected car technology, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with a 12-speaker JBL audio system with Dolby Atmos support.

Tata Sierra EV: Design

On the outside, the Sierra EV retains the signature silhouette of the ICE iteration, but gains a few EV-specific styling cues. These include a closed front fascia with a body-colored panel, linked LED DRLs, vertically stacked LED fog lamps, flush door handles, aerodynamic alloy wheels and a full-width LED light strip at the rear.

Tata Sierra EV: Powertrain

The Sierra EV will likely be offered with multiple battery options, including 55kWh and 65kWh units, while higher variants could also borrow the larger 75kWh battery from the Harrier EV. Fast charging capability is also expected to be part of the package, allowing the battery to be charged in significantly less time using DC fast chargers.Tata Motors is expected to extend its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) program to the Sierra EV, giving customers the option to purchase the vehicle separately from the battery through a subscription-based ownership model, thereby reducing initial purchase costs. When launched, it will compete with rivals such as Mahindra BE 6, Hyundai Creta Electric and Maruti Suzuki e Vitara in the fast-growing electric SUV segment in India.
