After a stellar opening weekend, the film’s box office collection on Monday fell 61.9% from Rs 2,190 crore on Sunday. The film debuted on Friday with a net box office of 1,740 million rupees. The weekend box office grew strongly, with a net box office of 220 million rupees on Saturday and 21.9 billion rupees on Sunday. The total box office in the first weekend exceeded 500 million rupees, which is impressive.
The English version of “Odyssey” remains the biggest draw
The English version of the film has been the biggest contributor to its success in India. Of the estimated total revenue of Rs 8,314 crore so far, the English version has contributed about Rs 6,618 crore, accounting for nearly 80% of the total revenue. The remaining Rs 16.96 crore comes from the Hindi, Tamil and Telugu dubbed versions.
Odyssey stays ahead of domestic competition
The Christopher Nolan-director’s film continued to lead the Indian box office on Monday, outperforming its rivals despite a decline on weekdays. The film is competing with the horror film “Evil Dead”, which has earned Rs 2,698 crore net revenue and Rs 3,161 crore gross revenue in India so far. It also faces competition in the Hindi market with Dhamaal 4, which has grossed an estimated Rs 152.2 crore, taking the total net revenue in India so far to Rs 127.75 crore.
