NEET re-examination 2026: Hijab screening controversy triggers tension outside exam center in Ahmedabad
Ahmedabad, June 21 (IANS) A brief clash over exam security and enforcement of dress code led to tension outside the venue at a NEET re-examination center in Ahmedabad on Sunday, with parents, student groups and political workers clashing briefly before police restored order.

National Qualification Examination and Entrance Examination Security Inspection Dispute Case (NEETA brief staff leak occurred at a re-examination center in Ahmedabad on Sunday, triggering protests from parents and police intervention.The incident took place at RJ Tibrewal Commerce College in Vastrapur, one of the 211 NEET re-examination centers in Gujarat where the re-examination was conducted following the controversy surrounding the exam earlier this year.

Controversy aroused during security check

According to officials and witnesses, the incident began when a female candidate wearing a hijab underwent a security check before entering the exam center.According to reports, clothes were temporarily removed during the inspection, and the candidate’s mother objected. She believes her daughter should be allowed to attend exams wearing a headscarf.After discussions between examination officials, college principal and police personnel, the student was allowed to enter the center wearing religious attire.

Parents raise objections

This decision was opposed by some parents present.They questioned whether exam rules were applied uniformly and claimed students wearing Hindu religious symbols such as sacred threads, necklaces and bracelets were asked to remove them during body searches.As the discussion intensified, parents gathered outside the center and raised slogans demanding equal implementation of the exam guidelines.

Police restore order

The situation became tense after members associated with the Bajrang Dal and the All India Muslim Congress (Artificial intelligence management system) also arrived at the venue. There were reports of a minor scuffle before police intervened.Assistant Commissioner of Police Jayesh Bhrambathatt said officers intervened to prevent the situation from escalating.“Members from different organizations gathered at the center and after intervention the situation was brought under control. As part of the standard procedure, students were asked to remove certain religious items during inspection,” he told Ians.Police removed several people from the scene and implemented crowd control measures.Officials said that despite the tense atmosphere outside, candidates were allowed to take the exam and the exam was conducted normally at the center.State Administration of Taxation Strict security measures are in place for the NEET re-examination, including multi-layered search and identity verification.Police later appealed to the public not to spread unsubstantiated claims on social media, saying law and order remained under control throughout the inspection.(Institutional investment)
