Discussions about work-life balance are becoming more common in the film industry these days, but for newcomers in the early 2000s, things were very different. actor Dia Mirza Recently, she reflected on the rigorous schedule she endured at the beginning of her Bollywood journey, revealing that she often worked more than one day in a row and signed on for multiple projects without even receiving a complete script.In a candid conversation with filmmaker and choreographer Farah Khan, Dia reflects on her formative years in the film industry and the challenges she faced entering the industry at a young age.

Dia Mirza’s tough act in Bollywood

During a visit to Dia Mirza’s house, Farah Khan praised the actor’s performance in films like “Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein” and “Tumko Na Bhool Paayenge”. She said Dia appeared very confident on screen and never gave the impression of being a first-time actor.In response to the compliments, Dia talked about how different her experience was from that of many actors who undergo extensive training before debuting. “You said you started those people and I used to hear stories about the level of love, care and attention you gave them. Unke karwaye workshops, lagwaye classes, tameezeekhayi ki performances kya hoti hai, karwaaye dance classes, diction coaching, I had no such experience.” (You enroll them in workshops, sign them up for acting classes, teach them proper etiquette and the true meaning of acting, arrange dance training sessions, and even provide diction coaching. I didn’t have those opportunities.)The actor went on to reveal that she was thrust into multiple projects at once, leaving little time to prepare or learn her craft in a structured way.“Seedha 5 pictures uninterrupted in mein kaam karne bhej diya, din ke 24 ghante, 27, 28 ghante. (I was immediately assigned to shoot five films simultaneously and found myself working endlessly, often till 27 or 28 hours without a break.) I always used to tell you that once you work with Pooja Films, you are ready to work with any production house in the country. Because we worked hard. No script was received. Bas Online Sunaya aur bola yeh superhit hone waali hai, isko karlo bas.” (They would simply tell the story over the phone and say, “This is going to be a super hit, just sign it,” and that would be enough.)Dia’s comments offer a glimpse into that era: busy shooting schedules and back-to-back assignments are often cited as part of the struggle for newcomers in the Hindi film industry.

The film that introduced Dia Mirza to audiences

Dia made her acting debut in 2001 with Gautham Vasudev Menon’s romantic drama Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein (produced by Pooja Entertainment). Starring R. Madhavan, Saif Ali Khan and Dia Mirza, the film tells the story of a young man whose deception complicates his love affair with an unsuspecting woman.Although the film failed to make a significant impact at the box office upon its release, it gradually developed a loyal fan base and is now considered a cult romance classic. Her next album Deewaanapan, backed by Vashu Bhagnani, struggled commercially even though it generated audience interest.

On the professional front, Dia Mirza will next be seen in Ikka, a courtroom drama directed by Siddharth P. Malhotra and produced by Alchemy Films. The program explores a complex legal battle in which issues of justice, morality and personal relationships become increasingly intertwined.The film’s cast includes Sunny Deol, Akshaye Khanna, Tillotama Shome, Sanjeeda Shaikh, Shishir Sharma and Akansha Ranjan Kapoor along with Dia Mirza. “Yika” is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on July 10.
