Days after announcing her separation from husband Suraj Nambiar and asking for privacy, Mouni Roy Shares her thoughts on forgiveness, healing, and moving on from those who have hurt or disappointed you.In a recent conversation with Free Press Magazine, the actress reflected on how her views on betrayal and resentment have evolved over the years, crediting the change to her personal and spiritual journey.
“I will forgive, but I can’t forget”
Mooney revealed that even when she was younger, forgiving others came naturally to her, but forgetting the hurt was often much more difficult.“When I was much younger I could forgive easily, and to this day I do, but I can’t forget. Now, I think through my own personal and spiritual journey, I feel like you have to forgive and God will make you forget,” she said. The actress said healing becomes easier when people stop holding on to past wounds and allow themselves to move on.
“You will be the one hurt the most.”
In explaining why she chooses not to hold onto a grudge, Mooney likens resentment to a burden that ends up hurting the person carrying it.“If you don’t let go, you’ll be the one hurt the most. Sometimes the other person who hurts you doesn’t even think about it, no matter how much they hurt you,” she said.Mooney said that over time, practices like meditation, chanting and spirituality helped her find peace and perspective.
“I’m not calling this man evil.”
While advocating for forgiveness, the actress clarified that she was not suggesting that people should ignore harmful behavior.“There are evil people who will go out of their way to hurt you. I’m not calling the person evil, I’m calling their qualities evil,” she explained.
