A Brazilian woman accused of repeatedly stalking BTS member Jungkook has been sentenced to probation by a South Korean court and may now face deportation.The woman, whose identity has not been made public, was sentenced to one year in prison, suspended for two years, by the Seoul District Court after repeatedly visiting the K-pop star’s home despite repeated warnings from authorities. According to court proceedings, the woman began visiting Jungkook’s residence in December last year, claiming that her behavior was motivated by “love for the singer.”
Stalker rang Jungkook’s doorbell 133 times
Prosecutors said she visited Jungkook’s home in Seoul multiple times and tried to leave letters and photos at the home while ignoring police orders, the BBC reported. The report also said that in one of the incidents, she rang the singer’s doorbell 133 times.The court said the woman showed “extreme obsession”.
The stalker left a letter at Jungkook’s residence
Authorities said the woman first came to Jungkook’s residence on December 7, where she wandered outside, threw items against the wall and slipped letters through the door. Despite the warning, she returned days later and rang the doorbell repeatedly.She was arrested on Dec. 13 after allegedly following a food delivery boy as he tried to enter the property through a side door. She was released the next day and warned not to approach the residence again.
Stalker ignores restraining order
However, prosecutors said she ignored the warnings and continued to visit the area. This reportedly prompted police to issue an emergency restraining order, banning her from entering within 100 meters of Jungkook.Even so, she allegedly continued to visit the property, some 22 times in total.In handing down the sentence, the judge noted that the defendant’s risk of reoffending was considered “not substantial” and he was therefore given a suspended sentence. In addition to the verdict, the woman is expected to be deported from South Korea unless she successfully appeals.The verdict comes a year after another shocking incident involving a stalker caused a stir online. In June last year, a Chinese woman in her 30s was arrested in Seoul after allegedly trying to break into Jungkook’s home hours after he completed his military service.
