veteran actor bindu has made public her late memory. Parveen Babilooks back at the actress’s struggles following a nervous breakdown and the impact it had on her personal and professional life.In a recent chat with Vickey Lalwani, Bindu recalled meeting Parveen during difficult times and shared what the actress often talked about Amitabh Bachchan. She also recounted witnessing early signs of her deteriorating health while working on a film with Parveen.
“She was just talking about him”
When asked if Parveen Babi liked Amitabh Bachchan, Bindu admitted that she was not aware of the nature of their relationship but recalled meeting the actress after her breakdown.“I didn’t know him well, but then I met her at a party when she was having a breakdown and she was just talking about him. I felt like she was wrong. She was saying a lot about him,” Bindu said.The veteran actor added that Parveen would often make unusual remarks to several people around her.“She also used to say a lot about us. I knew what she was saying. I sat with my husband and I told her not to ask too many questions. It was a breakdown. She must have loved him, we didn’t know. That’s what I heard later,” she said.Bindu clarified that she has not worked extensively with Parveen and hence cannot comment further on the actress’s personal feelings.“I haven’t done many films with Parveen Babi. So, I didn’t know anything about it.”
“It’s a very sad thing for her”
Recalling the period when Parveen’s health began to affect her work, Bindu described an incident that occurred during the Jawaramji shooting.“What a tragic death. Very sad. It happened in front of me. In the beginning, we played Jwalamukhi. Shatru. Yes, Shatru. We played Reena after Shatru. So, Parveen played her,” she recalled.According to Bindu, the crew was scheduled to shoot from 2 pm to 10 pm and completed rehearsals before Parveen arrived on the set.“We moved from 2 o’clock to 10 o’clock. We were ready at 2 o’clock. We also rehearsed. We said, Parveen is coming. She came to the set. After she arrived, we stood up and took photos. She has some dialogue. She was speechless. She said a word or two and then forgot about it. She wasn’t listening. She is in a trance somewhere. “
Shooting canceled after Parveen falls ill
Director Prakash Mehra immediately realized something was wrong and decided to stop the shoot, Bindu said.“Prakashji said, if you don’t feel well, let’s pack up and go tomorrow. She said, yeah, I think so. I don’t feel well.” That day, we finished shooting. “The actress revealed that the next day, the trip had to be completely canceled.“Prakashji said, let’s do one thing. I’ll call you tomorrow morning. We’ll probably do a 2 o’clock shift. He said, OK. The next day, he called. He said, no, we have to cancel the schedule. She was not in good condition. That’s when it started.”Bindu added that no one on the set understood the seriousness of the situation at the time.“We don’t know what happened. How serious it is. We don’t know anything.”
Pavin was eventually replaced Reena Roy
As Parveen’s health deteriorated, production kept getting delayed, and the filmmakers eventually replaced her with Reena Roy.“After that, we had a long schedule. There was also a long break. They changed Parveen and took Reena away. Then we started shooting the film.”When asked about the need to reshoot certain parts, Bindu explained: “Actually, what happened to them, we had no involvement in it. All of this was re-shot by Rena. We shot with Rena.
“She’s on the phone, but she’s somewhere else”
Bindu also recalled another disturbing moment she shared with Parveen later in the shoot.“After that, I was shooting at night. We shared a room with Parveen. We were talking to her. She was answering, but she was somewhere else. She was looking somewhere else in a trance.”She remembers her hairdresser noticing the same thing.“My hairstylist was with me. She pointed at me and said, what’s going on? I said, I don’t know.” We don’t understand. “According to Bindu, Parveen seemed physically present but mentally distant.“She was nodding, but she wasn’t listening to me. She was somewhere else. After that night, she fell ill. After that, it was over.”Looking back, Bindu describes Parveen Babi’s downfall as one of the saddest experiences she has witnessed in the film industry.“This is a very sad thing for her,” she concluded.
