New Delhi: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s much-awaited India debut was a mixture of excitement and disappointment. The 15-year-old became the youngest cricketer to represent India in international cricket but also set an unwelcome record in the second T20I against England at Manchester’s Old Trafford on Saturday.The left-handed batsman became the first Indian to be dropped on his T20I debut.
Fearlessness starts from a young age
Suryavanshi looked completely unfazed by the situation. He scored 14 runs off just 10 balls, hitting two sixes in an entertaining cameo.The youngster announced his style by smashing England fast bowler Jofra Archer to hit a towering six over the wicketkeeper’s head. He followed up with a clean shot off the ropes from Josh Tongue.The teenager’s entertaining at-bat came to an end in the fifth inning.Looking to continue his attack, Soriyavanshi faced spinner Will Jacks but was beaten by the flight of the ball. Despite the early dismissal, it was a landmark day for the Bihar batsmen.At 15 years and 99 days old, Sooryavanshi became the youngest player to represent India in international cricket. He broke Sachin Tendulkar’s long-standing record. Tendulkar made his debut at the age of 16 years and 205 days.
