De Silva said during the toss that the surface looked drier than expected and suggested batting first would not be a major disadvantage. He stressed the importance of doing a good job in the first round of negotiations to build a strong overall, and also expressed confidence in carrying forward Sri Lanka’s victory momentum.
Chase, on the other hand, was optimistic about the West Indies bowling first, pointing to the grass pitch and backing his pace unit to capitalize on the early movement. He also stressed the importance of preparation and noted the value of holding a red-ball training camp in Antigua before the series.
Course expert Richard Mali said the course’s surface was balanced but likely to favor early seamers, with light winds and consistent grass cover aiding swing conditions. Historical data from recent games at the venue suggests that fast bowlers may once again dominate the game.
With early conditions favoring fast bowling, both teams will be looking to take immediate control in what promises to be a hard-fought opener.
