Dear Trehan‘Satluj’, originally titled ‘Punjab ’95’, remained mired in controversy even after being removed from OTT. The film starring Diljit Dosanjh was pulled from streaming platforms days after its release and is now reportedly being screened publicly in multiple locations, including parts of Punjab and Jammu. The alleged screenings have triggered a legal challenge, with a petition filed in the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking action against those who organized the events.Inspired by the life and death of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, the film premiered on OTT on July 3 before being removed from the platform on July 5. Its sudden removal sparked widespread discussion around censorship, legal proceedings and the film’s distribution through unauthorized channels.Advocate Vineet Jindal announced on X (formerly Twitter) that he had approached the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court over reports of a public screening of Satluj. Sharing a copy of the petition, he said it sought legal intervention against those allegedly responsible for organizing the events.Jindal wrote on It is alleged that such screenings are used to promote violence and spread hatred against communities and security agencies. “He further added: “These illegal acts pose a serious threat to peace, public order and communal harmony in Punjab. I have therefore sought appropriate directions to prevent such illegal screenings and ensure that those responsible are held accountable to the fullest extent of the law. ” In another clip, Jindal argued that screening the film without the necessary legal permission or valid authorization for release amounted to an illegal act. He also urged the authorities to register an FIR and take strict action against the organizers.After the film was removed from Zee5, the streaming platform issued a statement, which read: “In view of the current developments, ‘Satluj’ will be unavailable in India until further notice. We remain committed to exploring all appropriate avenues through due process to bring the film back to our viewers at the earliest.”
