England defeated India 4-0 by 56 runs in the fifth and final match at Southampton on Saturday. Jos Buttler performed brilliantly with a knock of 131 off 64 balls while captain Harry Brook remained unbeaten on 95 balls as England posted a mammoth score of 257/3 after batting. India fought back with the bat but could only manage 201/8, handing England a memorable series sweep.England lost Phil Salt early on but Buttler and Brooke were in complete control with a record-breaking partnership of 233 for the second wicket – the highest stand for any wicket in men’s T20I history. Buttler smashed 12 fours and eight sixes to record the best T20I score of his career, while Brooke narrowly missed out on a century with an unbeaten 95 off just 45 balls.India’s bowlers had a memorable outing. Axar Patel conceded 63 runs in four overs, Prince Yadav conceded 60 runs while debutant Suryansh Shedge conceded 39 runs in three overs. England’s aggressive attack gave the visitors little chance of a comeback.Chasing 258 is always a difficult task. Ishan Kishan scored 56 and Tilak Varma added a quick 53, but neither of the innings was enough to threaten England’s total.The defeat means India have lost the five-match series 4-0 after being eliminated in the first game. This also ended India’s 1,601-day dominance in the ICC men’s T20I rankings. Led by new skipper Shreyas Iyer, India have now suffered six defeats as the team struggles to maintain consistency during the tour.England, meanwhile, looked sharp in every aspect throughout the series, with Buttler and Brooke leading the way in the final to end a one-sided contest in emphatic fashion.
