New Zealand 86.3 370/4 in overs

England vs New Zealand, third Test live score: Missed review, catches and losses plague England

A difficult day could have looked very different if several of England’s key moments had passed. Shortly after lunch, Shoaib Bashir hit Devon Conway as the batsman posted 71 as New Zealand posted 157 for no loss. England chose not to review the LBW decision, with television replays showing the ball hitting the stumps. In the next innings, wicketkeeper Jamie Smith missed a direct chance when Tom Latham scored 129 runs. Both the batsmen went on to score hundreds and added over 300 runs in total. Smith made amends by taking three catches later in the day, including dismissing Latham, but the missed chances had allowed New Zealand to build a huge platform. On a flat batting surface, moments like this are of immense value and England can’t help but wonder what would have happened if these chances had been taken.
