Shreyas Iyer After being appointed as the captain for the upcoming series against Ireland, he is all set to usher in a new era for the Indian T20I team. The appointment marks a major turnaround for the middle-order batsman, who missed out on India’s T20 World Cup squad but has now returned to the national team with increased responsibility after a successful leadership role in the IPL in recent seasons.The selectors’ decision reflects growing confidence in Iyer’s leadership credentials, and the role also provides him with an opportunity to cement his place in India’s T20I plans after being overlooked in the previous two T20 World Cups.Head coach ahead of first training session of India’s new leadership group Gautam Gambhir Addressed the entire team and congratulated Iyer for taking charge of the team. Gambhir described the role as a special honour, and expressed confidence that the new captain would set the right example both on and off the field.“I would like to congratulate Shriyas on being appointed captain of India. It is a huge honor to lead your country and I am sure you will do an outstanding job, not just on the field but off the field as well,” Gambhir said in a video released by BCCI.Addressing the players for the first time as India’s T20I captain, Iyer outlined the culture he hopes to build in the dressing room. This is my first opportunity to captain Team India and it’s definitely an honor and a privilege, as Gowti Bai mentioned. It’s a huge respect and an opportunity to lead this country. So, going forward, I want to create a culture where we all protect each other and stay together through thick and thin, and more importantly, while we’re here, yedo says yea, yedo ye, yedo says.”The new captain also encouraged his teammates to play with confidence and fearlessness. Iyer treats the team as a family and calls on everyone to support each other, celebrate shared successes and approach every match with confidence that India can excel.“This is a great opportunity, this is one big family. Let’s play like lions and treat every game like we’re going to win it and play to the best of our abilities.
