Lisa Kudrow talks about mysterious text messages that appeared on her phone
Kudrow recalls losing her mother during COVID-19 and remembers feeling ignored when her family believed they received spiritual signs of her mother’s presence at the time of her death. When her mother died, her brother got a call around 2:30 or 3 in the morning, while he was still awake; her father was awake, her husband was awake, and the alarm clock at her sister’s house went off, waking them up as well. However, Kudrow only woke up because her brother called her. “I said it wasn’t surprising. She was flying around and waking everyone up as she passed by,” Kudrow recalled telling her loved ones, before adding, “She just didn’t wake me up.”A day or two after the funeral, Kudrow was working on a slide show in his mother’s memory when he experienced something unusual. When she responded to the message, she saw “Mom” written in the message box, even though she didn’t type it. “There was no cursor or anything, and I was thinking, ‘I didn’t write that. delete. delete. Delete,” she shared on Mayim Bialik’s podcast. The incident happened again, and then a third time, leaving her confused and curious about what was happening.

Days later, Kudrow still felt uneasy because her mother seemed to wake everyone but her. She complained to her husband that her phone was acting strangely and told her husband and friends about the incident. Their response was striking: “Lisa, your mom is texting you from outside.” Another incident happened during the lockdown when she noticed “XOXOXO” appearing in the message box, even though she didn’t type it. Her mother had never signed her name that way, but a day later her father shared an old letter from her mother with “XOXOXOXO” written across nearly half the page. She also recalled a similar incident on her 60th birthday, when she found a jumble of letters in a text box that she thought might be a birthday message from her mother. After sorting through the letters, she felt like it was a birthday wish. Kudrow noted that she calls her son Julian “JU” and interpreted the letters as another possible message from her mother, this time taking screenshots for her records.

Lisa Kudrow’s experience mirrors her ‘Friends’ character PhoebeThe actress’ statement reminded many Friends fans of her character Phoebe Buffay, who in one memorable episode was convinced that her mother had been reincarnated as a cat. In that storyline, Phoebe tells her friends, “I believe this is my mother. Even if I’m wrong, who cares? Just be friends. Okay? Just support.” Kudrow acknowledges that her experience could be interpreted in many different ways, but she remains open to the possibility that her mother is communicating with her from another realm or dimension. “While we don’t know what it is, we know it’s something. Telepathy or not, they’re communicating somewhere in another realm, dimension, or mountain. Why shut it down?” she said on the podcast.Kudrow has been one of television’s most beloved stars since “Friends,” with recent credits including the dark comedy series “No Good Deeds.”
