New Delhi: There is a lot of speculation ahead of the third ODI at Lord’s Cup against England Rohit Sharma Probably his last one-day international for India. The veteran opener responded to the rumors in his own style as he smashed a brilliant 138 off 110 balls. His innings included 17 fours and 5 sixes and he almost led India to equal the record.England scored 387/3 and despite Rohit’s stellar performance, India trailed by 27 runs in the series final. In an interview with BCCI.tv after the match, Rohit said that he paid no attention to the noise outside and was only focused on helping the team.“Listen, my job is to play. Come on. Represent my country, represent my team. That’s what I’ve been told to do since I debuted. So that’s what I’m going to do,” Rohit said.“The noise… has been there since I made my debut and till I stay here, it will always be there. So it doesn’t matter. What matters is what I do on the field. Trying to contribute to the success of the team. That’s all my focus now,” the former India captain said.“Let the noise be. You know there’s no noise. There’s no fun. My job is inside, their job is outside, so that’s how I look at it,” Rohit added.
Retirement rumors ahead of Lord’s ODI
Ahead of the main event, speculations were doing the rounds on social media that this might be Rohit’s last ODI in Indian colours.Instead, the 38-year-old reminded everyone of his class with some of his finest ODI knocks, keeping India chasing till the very end.Earlier, Times of India had reported that Rohit’s place in India’s ODI eleven is no longer guaranteed and as preparations for the 2027 ODI World Cup begin, the selectors plan to pick players based on form and fitness. The report adds that the door remains open for Rohit to move on as long as he maintains his consistent performances.Rohit is currently just 12 matches away from becoming the eighth player in ODI history to reach 300 appearances. He has played 288 ODIs and scored 11,895 runs at an average of 48.95, including 38 centuries and 62 fifties.
