Joby Baker was born on March 26, 1934 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Although born in Canada, he spent much of his early life on the Hawaiian island of Oahu.He later continued his studies in New York City. He then moved to Los Angeles to pursue opportunities in the entertainment industry.Early in his career, he appeared in shows such as “The Red Skull Hour,” “Studio One,” “George Burns” and “The Gracie Allen Show.”
“Gidget” breaks through
Baker’s biggest break came in 1959, when he played Stinky in “Gidget.” He later reprized the role in Gidget Goes Hawaiian (1961) and Gidget Goes to Rome (1963).He also showed off his comedic talents in Happy Girls (1965), in which he played Wilbur alongside Alvis Presley.In addition to the big screen, Baker has also built an extensive television career. From 1967 to 1968, he starred in all 26 episodes of the sitcom Morning World.
