New Delhi: Former Australia opener David Warner He admitted a drink-driving charge after being stopped during a random breath test in Sydney in April, the BBC reported.Warner’s lawyer Bobby Hill confirmed the former Australian cricketer admitted the charge.Warner was charged after failing a random roadside breath test in Sydney’s eastern suburbs on April 5. Police took him to Maroubra Police Station where his blood alcohol reading was 0.104, more than twice the legal limit.“The parties are discussing the facts,” Hill told the court.“He admitted it was a reckless decision, a stupid decision, that he chose to drive rather than take an Uber,” Hill said.“It is not a sin to drink a glass of wine on the day of the Lord’s Resurrection. In fact, some would consider it entirely appropriate,” the lawyer said.“As I said, his crime was choosing the stupid Plan A instead of Plan B,” he said.
Sentencing on August 18
Warner will be sentenced on August 18. He faces a driving ban of at least six months, a fine of up to $2,200 and a jail sentence of up to nine months.
Another controversy for Warner
The former Australia opener has been involved in several high-profile controversies before.In 2018, he was banned for 12 months in South Africa’s ball-tampering scandal after Cricket Australia discovered he masterminded a scheme to use sandpaper to alter the condition of the ball. The incident also permanently disqualified him from leadership roles in the national team.Warner was banned in 2013 after punching England batsman Joe Root in an incident in Birmingham.
