Producer Aakash Baskaran spoke about the film’s theatrical release in a chat with Chitra Lakshmanan on YouTube, admitting that there were several factors that affected its commercial performance. “The controversy surrounding Parasakthi, its clash with other films, censorship issues and huge expectations all played a major role in the film’s box office results,” he said. He further added, “We produced ‘Parasakthi’ and ‘Idli Kadai’ on a profit-sharing model. Parasakthi was a big-budget film but its box office collections did not meet expectations compared to the investment. ” His comments shed more light on why the film failed to meet financial expectations despite much hype.

Akash Bhaskaran also explained the differences between the two films from a business perspective. “That’s why we were unable to pay the full agreed profit share of ‘Parasakthi’. But ‘Idli Kadai’ was made on a much smaller budget but it proved to be a profitable investment for us. Hence, we were able to fulfill our promise and pay Dhanush our full promised profit share,” he said. His statement raised eyebrows as it directly compared the historical returns of box office projects. Akash Bhaskaran’s comments reveal something about the filmmaking industry. While “Parasakthi” may not have lived up to box office expectations, “Idli Kadai” turned out to be a profitable investment due to its low budget and consistent run in theaters.
