IOC complaint puts Infantino under new scrutiny
FairSquare said it would formally ask the International Olympic Committee’s ethics committee to investigate whether Infantino violated the Olympic movement’s principle of political neutrality.“FairSquare will lodge a complaint with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) over FIFA president Gianni Infantino’s repeated breaches of political neutrality rules,” the organization said in a statement.The International Olympic Committee lists political neutrality as a “fundamental principle of Olympism” and the body has jurisdiction over Infantino because he has been an IOC member since 2020.The latest complaint comes just a day after IOC President Kirsty Coventry confirmed that a formal ethics complaint had not been received but made clear that the matter would be reviewed if a complaint were made.“Obviously, if they did, they would look into the matter,” Coventry said, while acknowledging that the Olympic body was aware of the controversy surrounding the World Cup co-hosts.

The Balogun controversy erupted after Trump publicly celebrated FIFA’s decision to lift the striker’s suspension and claimed he persuaded football’s governing body to change its stance.The incident has called into question Infantino’s close relationship with the US president.
