Veteran musician and renowned former member of The Jam, Bruce Foxton, has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. The singer and bassist recently shared his health diagnosis, just months away from his 71st birthday.
Bruce Foxton diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease
The singer opened up about online speculation about his health and confirmed his Parkinson’s disease diagnosis. According to his Facebook post, he also revealed that the disease was caused by complications from old cancer treatments.He wrote: “I now face a future life with Parkinson’s disease…I am determined to do the best I can to make it happen. It will take me a long time to come to terms with this and accept that my body and mind are dealing with things that are completely beyond my control.” The singer has also been dealing with a chest infection since last year, which hampered his performances and caused him to cancel shows. He added: “The intense heat combined with an underlying chest infection really hit me at six and the medical advice was to rest while taking medication.“As for his diagnosis and treatment, the bassist mentioned that “having the right medications to help cope with the symptoms gave me another chance to continue doing what I love and what I live for in a relaxed and supportive environment.” He reassured fans on the matter at the end of his post, saying: “I will continue to play live as long as I can.”
What is Parkinson’s disease?
According to the Cleveland Clinic, Parkinson’s disease is “a progressive condition that affects movement. It usually starts with tremors, stiffness, or slowness. This occurs when the brain cells that produce dopamine stop working over time. There is no cure, but medications and therapies may help control symptoms and improve daily life.”
