2015: Sanzhou Samson Akhar Patel makes breakthrough in India
Five years later, India came to Zimbabwe again with a young team. Manish Pandey, Kedar Jadhav, Stuart Binny, Axar Patel and Sandeep Sharma made their T20I debut in the first match of the 2015 series, while Sanju Samson made his debut in the second T20I.Although several batsmen had a mediocre start, Axar Patel stood out with an impressive performance of 3/17. Manish Pandey scored 19 runs, Kedar Jadhav scored 9 runs, Stuart Binny contributed 11 runs and Sandeep Sharma did not take a wicket. 2016: Chahal, Kuala Lumpur Rahul Join the growing list
In 2016, India continued this trend, providing opportunities for another batch of newcomers. KL Rahul, Mandeep Singh, Jaydev Unadkat, Rishi Dhawan and Yuzvendra Chahal all made their T20I debut in the opening match. It proved to be a difficult start for several players as Zimbabwe were reduced to 170/6. Unadkat, Dhawan and Chahal all had expensive seasons, while Rahul was dismissed for failing to score the first ball. Mandeep Singh, who scored 31 off 27 balls, was one of the few positive players even as India lost the match by two runs.The second T20I brought more debuts. 2024: Abhishek Sharma and Riyan Parag become latest batch of Indian stars to debut

Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel, Sai Sudharsan and Tushar Deshpande also started their international journey in the series.The tour also marks another important milestone with Shubman Gill captaining India in T20Is for the first time. 2026: Prabhsimran, Ashok, Yash and Harsh wait for their chance
The 2026 tour is likely to once again add new names to India’s growing list of T20I debutants in Zimbabwe. Prabhusimran Singh, Ashok Sharma, Yash Thakur and left-arm spin all-rounder Harsh Dubey are all vying for a chance to make their debut for India in three games. With Sanju Samson left out of the squad, Prabhsimran comes in as the third opener specialist. While Abhishek Sharma and Vibhav Suryavanshi are expected to be India’s first-choice opening pair, it remains to be seen whether Prabhusimran gets a chance in the series. The pace department also has two uncapped fast bowlers in Ashok Sharma and Yash Thakur. Ashok impressed in IPL 2026, consistently hitting speeds above 150 km/h and hitting the fastest ball in the tournament at 154.7 km/h, performances that earned him a call-up to the Indian senior squad for the first time. Thakur, meanwhile, has played just one IPL match for Kings XI Punjab but has been part of BCCI’s target pool for a long time. He also enjoyed an impressive journey to the Vijay Hazare Trophy, with the selectors rewarding his continued progress with the national team. Harsh Dubey is another player who has not represented the national team and he may make his international debut in Harare. The left-arm spin bowling all-rounder featured in 11 IPL matches for Sunrisers Hyderabad, taking 13 wickets while also putting up a series of impressive performances in national cricket that forced him into the national fold. If any of the four make their debut in Harare, they will become the latest in a long list of Indian cricketers to begin their T20I tour from Zimbabwe.
