Trehan said in a recent interview that Dosanjh, who plays human rights activist Jaswant Singh Hara in the film, supported the project and its story from the beginning. Now, the comments have resurfaced again as Satluj was pulled from ZEE5 within 48 hours of its unexpected launch.

In an interview with Mid Day, Trehan recounted how Dosanjh reacted strongly to the topic before he was officially approached about the film. The director said in an interview with Mid Day:“Even before I told him that I wanted to make a film about Jaswant Singh Khalra, he immediately said, ‘If it’s not about 1984, there’s only one story worth making in Punjab.'” I showed him my research book. He looked at Mr. Kalra’s picture, picked up the book, placed it on his forehead and simply said, “Waheguru ji… tell me when and where to go.” You will find me there. ‘”

Diljit Dosanjh stayed patient during tough shooting days

Trehan also spoke about Dosanjh’s behavior on set, especially on days of delays and scheduling issues. He told Noon:“There were days when he would report in at six in the morning and I wouldn’t be able to shoot his first scene until four in the evening because of scheduling chaos. I kept apologizing. Every time he would tell me, ‘Paaji, no problem. Whatever you are doing, you are doing it for the film. I am here to support the film.'”Despite the controversy that has surrounded the film’s release, Dosanjh continues to speak positively about the film, its real-life themes and what the story represents.

Why was Satluj removed from OTT?

On Tuesday, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said in a statement to news agency ANI that Satluj did not comply with the IT Rules 2021 and was therefore asked to be removed from ZEE5. Notably, a censor board certificate is not required for a movie or show to be released on an Indian OTT platform; however, the ministry wants to self-regulate and comply with regulations laid down in the IT Rules, 2021.The film also stars Arjun RampalKanwaljit Singh, Suvinder Vicky and Geetika Vidya Ohlyan played key roles and it took a three-year journey to finally land on the platform.

“Satluj” was earlier titled “Panjab ’95” and told the true story of Jaswant Singh Khalra. The story is set in the 1980s and 1990s, a tumultuous period in Punjabi history marked by violent militancy, demands for an independent state (Khalistan) and harsh state counter-insurgency operations. Kalra spearheaded an independent investigation that revealed local police illegally abducted and secretly cremated thousands of “unidentified” teenagers without notifying their families. Khalra himself was kidnapped and murdered in 1995, shortly after taking his documentary evidence to the international stage.
