Tusshar Kapoor on intergenerational parenting
Tusshar says parenting has changed dramatically over the years. He believes today’s parents are more involved in their children’s lives than previous generations, while acknowledging that each generation has its own strengths and challenges. “Every generation has its own strengths and weaknesses,” he said. “I think some Gen Z people have become emotionally distant from their relationships, but certainly not all of them. Children of Generation Alpha are raised by more involved parents. I believe that hands-on parenting is extremely important, and parents today are making a conscious effort to be more involved in their children’s lives. “Reminiscing about his youth, Tashal said that earlier, children had more freedom to play outside but were less involved in important family decisions. “My generation had the freedom to play outside, but we didn’t have much say in our choices. Our parents decided where we went on vacation, who our friends were and many other things,” he recalls.
Give children the freedom to choose their own path
Tushar believes his own experiences shaped the way he raised his son. He said living independently in the United States helped him gain confidence and influenced his decision to pursue an acting career. “Living on my own gave me confidence and when I came back I decided to become an actor rather than simply join the family business,” he said. The actor added that he hopes his son will discover his own interests and not feel pressured to follow in his footsteps. “He excelled academically and he excelled in sports as well. The only thing he wasn’t interested in was movies,” Tushar said with a smile. “He has hardly watched any of my films. The last one he watched was ‘Bhoot Bangla’, mainly because it was a family film.”Even family movie-watching time is based on the son’s preferences. “He would rather watch a movie with his friends and have popcorn in his hand. He likes to have his own space and I totally respect that,” he shared.
Careers, life lessons and moving forward
Tushar said he has learned to accept uncertainty and remain optimistic during difficult phases. According to the actor, patience and perseverance have helped him navigate life and career. “I realized we don’t have complete control over everything. You can’t predict life. The best thing to do is stay positive, stay strong and keep moving forward. Things will unfold in their own time and you have to trust the process,” he said. Sharing the advice he hopes his son will always remember, Tushar added: “My biggest strength has always been to never give up. There will always be noise around you, good or bad, but you have to learn to filter it out and treat everything with a pinch of salt. Have a mind of your own, stay focused and keep moving forward.”On the work front, Tashar Kapoor was last seen in the crime thriller Maarrich, which was released in theaters on December 9, 2022.
