Filmmaker SS Rajamouli has shared a major production update on his upcoming film Varanasi. The director, who is currently shooting for the ambitious Rs 1,400-crore film, took a break from production and headed to the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, where he shared an update on the schedule and more.

Rajamouli Confirmation that the “Varanasi” action scene has been completed

In an interview with Variety, Rajamouli confirmed that all of the film’s large-scale IMAX action scenes have now been filmed and said that the film is progressing steadily. Sharing the latest news about the film, he said: “What I can say is that we have completed the main part of the shoot, all the important big action scenes are done. We are (now) working on smaller, interconnected scenes, so hopefully by September, maybe by October, we should be finished filming.

Rajamouli talks about IMAX shooting

Rajamouli also clarified that the star who decided to make the film was Mahesh Babu and Priyanka Choprabecause IMAX did not change his creative vision. “From the beginning, we knew that the sequence we envisioned made the most sense,” he said. [the] IMAX format – we didn’t change anything just for the sake of format. “The director has previously revealed that the towering, vertical portion of the epic 20-minute Ramayana battle scene required a larger format to encompass the true scale and scope of the sequence and mythological backdrop. Therefore, the team decided to shoot the film in IMAX mode.

Varanasi release date

The upcoming time travel movie is expected to be released in April 2027. With a reported budget of over Rs 1,000 crore, the film is said to be one of the most expensive films ever made in India.Rajamouli’s previous films include RRR and Baahubali“The Beginning” and “Baahubali: The Conclusion” blockbusters are widely credited with boosting the scale and ambition of Indian cinema.
