The second week of July brings an exciting slate of South Indian movies. From sports dramas and mythological adventures to dark comedies and intense industry stories, viewers have several fresh films to choose from, let’s take a look at some of them.
“Peddie”
One of the biggest digital premieres this week is Peddi starring Ram Charan. Directed by Buchi Babu Sana, the sports action drama will start streaming on Netflix on July 9, including a Malayalam dubbed version.Set in 1994, the story follows a talented young cricketer from a remote village in Andhra Pradesh who struggles with social barriers while chasing his sporting dreams. Apart from Ram Charan, the film also stars Janhvi Kapoor, Shiva Rajkumar, Jagapati Babu, Divyendu, Boman Irani, Ravi Kishan, Vijay Chandrasekhar and Shruti Haasan.ETimes gave the movie 3 stars out of 5. The review stated, “Buchi Babu Sana deserves credit for trying to weave together themes of caste, ambition, and sportsmanship. While the film succeeds in highlighting the systemic challenges faced by marginalized groups, its treatment of female characters leaves a lot to be desired. Janhvi Kapoor’s character is largely reduced to a decorative presence. The normalization of non-consensual kissing is another problem that feels outdated and unnecessary.”
Mollywood Times and Sing Geetham added to streaming list
“Mollywood Days”, currently streaming on Disney+ Hotstar, stars Nasren as Vineeth Madhavan, an aspiring filmmaker who aims to establish himself in the Malayalam film industry. Directed by Abhinav Sunder Nayak, the film explores the struggles, compromises and harsh realities faced by newcomers trying to pursue their dreams of cinema.Meanwhile, veteran filmmaker Singeetam Srinivasa Rao is back with “Sing Geetham”. The film will premiere on Netflix on July 9, 2026. This is the director’s 61st feature film, and the story takes place in the fictional kingdom of Kubelapura. The cast includes newcomers Ayaan, Ahilya Bamroo and Shalini Kondepudi, while Devi Sri Prasad has composed the music. Vijay Deverakonda also plays a cameo in the film.
