On June 23, heavy rainfall continued throughout Mumbai, causing flooding in many areas of the city and disrupting traffic. Amid the continued downpour and the orange alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), many students and parents are wondering whether schools and colleges will remain open tomorrow.As of now, the Mumbai government has not made an official announcement regarding the closure of schools and colleges. IMD issues orange alert for Mumbai
The IMD has issued an orange alert for Mumbai and neighboring Palghar district, warning of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds in the coming hours.Share weather updates on X, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation “In isolated areas, thunderstorms with lightning and strong to very heavy rainfall are likely, with wind gusts reaching 40 to 60 kilometers per hour,” the BMC quoted the IMD as saying.The weather warning comes after heavy rainfall overnight in several parts of the city.
Waterlogging affects traffic in many places
Heavy rains have caused waterlogging in many parts of Mumbai, affecting vehicular movement and causing inconvenience to commuters.According to BMC rainfall data, Mumbai received an average rainfall of 56 mm from 8 am to 11 pm on June 23. The rainfall in the eastern suburbs was 23 mm, and the rainfall in the western suburbs was 33 mm.Between 10 pm and 11 pm, significant rainfall occurred in many areas in the western suburbs. Charkop Sector 1 Municipal School in Kandivali recorded 32 mm of rainfall, MHB Municipal School in Malad recorded 28 mm of rainfall while Gajdharbandh Rainwater Pumping Station recorded 26 mm of rainfall.
BMC officials spoke on the matter
Interviewed by a news agency ArnieA BMC official said the municipality is continuing its efforts to control severe flooding in the affected areas.“We have not found a temporary solution to this severe waterlogging. Our policemen have been standing here to ensure that vehicles cannot pass. But some rickshaw drivers still tried to let their vehicles pass. A rickshaw was stuck in the center of the metro. The driver’s life was in danger. Two of our policemen helped him and rescued him,” he told reporters. Arnie.

Currently, no official order has been issued regarding the closure of schools or colleges tomorrow in Mumbai.
