Elon Musk has been very critical of the developer of ChatGPT OpenAI: for deviating from its mission of creating AI for the benefit of humans and taking a for-profit approach. He advocated that artificial intelligence (AI) should be available to all, and now he has announced that his AI startup. xAI: will open source: Chatbot this week.
“This week, @xAI will open Grok,” Musk said in a tweet on X (formerly Twitter).
In simple terms, open source software, such as a chatbot, means that the software can be redistributed because all the code is available to everyone. Another advantage of having open source software is that it gives the business the flexibility to have multiple solutions to a problem instead of waiting for an internal team to come up with a solution.

Meanwhile, a user suggested that OpenAI would do the same.
“OpenAI should do the same if they ‘open’ that is,” the user said. Musk replied, “OpenAI is a lie.”
Musk wants AI technology to be open source
Musk floated the idea of opening AI on a podcast in November last year. In a podcast with Lex Fridman, Musk said he likes the idea of open AI. “I usually like the opening, like the bias in the opening,” he said.
