The election will be held at the Film Musicians Association Hall in Vadapalani and voting will be held from 8 am to 4 pm. According to a report in The Hindu, Cheran, who represented the “Namma K. Bhagyaraj” group, defeated VC Guhanathan of the “Thiraikkathai Mannan K. Bhagyaraj” group in the race for the presidential post. Cheran polled an impressive 279 votes out of 432 voters, while Guhanathan polled 155 votes. The win confirms Cheran’s convincing election as the new president of the South Indian Film Writers Association.

Healthy participation in the election, team swept

In this election, association members actively participated and stood up to exercise their right to vote. In addition to the post of Chairman, 21 positions including Vice Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer and Joint Secretary were also elected. Cheran’s group was successful and Samuthirakani and Snekan were also elected as vice-chairmen. There was a brief dispute before the vote over the voting rights of ineligible members, but the process ended peacefully before the evening vote count.

The win is expected to give Chelan a bigger role in addressing writers’ concerns and strengthening the association in the coming years. Apart from his administrative work, the National Award-winning filmmaker remains active in the field of Tamil cinema. Cheran is recognized for his ability to tell emotionally charged stories through films such as “Autograph”, “Thavamai Thavamirundhu” and “Pokkisham”.Over the years, Cheran has worked with actors like Sneha, Mallika, Parthiban, Padmapriya, Saranya Ponvannan and technicians/musicians like Bharadwaj, Sabesh Murali, Ilaiyaraaja and others.
