Reacting to the honour, Rajkumar Periyasamy said that winning the National Award has always been one of his biggest ambitions. “I have been dreaming of winning a National Award ever since I dreamed of becoming a film director. Now it has come true! God is truly merciful,” he wrote. The director added that awards were never his focus while filming Amaram. “While writing and producing Amaram, I just wanted the audience to sympathize with the lives of Indian Army soldiers and their families. This movie has given back to our team and me many times over,” he shared.
