Himachal Pradesh School Holidays: Following the red alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), all government and private educational institutions in several high-risk districts of Himachal Pradesh remain closed today, July 21, 2026. The precautionary measures were taken in view of the expected extremely heavy monsoon rainfall, flash floods and landslides, which may affect public safety.The district administrations of Kangra, Mandi, Chamba and Sirmaur have ordered schools and other educational institutions to close for the day. The restrictions also apply to scheduled exams in affected areas that have been postponed. The authorities said the new exam date will be announced separately.Affected educational institutionsIn Kangra, all schools, colleges, universities, anganwadi centers and technical training institutes have been directed to remain closed. Academic activities were also suspended in Sirmaur and the district administration extended the closure order till July 22, 2026.In Mandi and Chamba, all primary, secondary and higher education institutions, including government and private institutions, have been directed to close classes for one day as a precaution against adverse weather conditions.Teaching and non-teaching staff have been granted leave. Local authorities have the power to make decisionsFor areas where blanket closures have not yet been announced, the state government has empowered deputy commissioners to monitor local weather conditions and make decisions on school closures if rainfall, flash flooding or road conditions pose a safety risk. The district administration has been advised to keep the situation under review and issue local orders if required.
