Yamaha Motor India today finally launched the new Yamaha Aerox E electric scooter in the Indian market, priced at Rs 2.81 lakh (ex-showroom). Interested customers can reserve an e-scooter online or by visiting the nearest dealership; Deliveries are expected to begin soon. The Aerox E is the brand’s second electric scooter in India after the EC-06. Talking first about the powertrain, the Aerox electric is powered by a 9.5 kW motor paired with two removable 1.5 kWh batteries. Together they deliver 48Nm of torque, and Yamaha says the setup uses high-energy cells designed to maximize performance and efficiency. The electric scooter is claimed to be able to travel up to 106 km on a single charge and weighs 139 kg, which is about 13 kg more than the ICE Aerox 155. The Aerox-E comes equipped with multiple driving modes – Eco, Standard and Power – along with a special Boost mode that offers a quick performance boost for effortless overtaking. Braking hardware includes front disc with ABS and rear disc, which ensure reliable stopping power.
The scooter uses telescopic front forks and double rear shock absorbers. It comes with 14-inch alloy wheels at both ends, while disc brakes at the front and rear, backed by single-channel ABS, provide braking. The smartphone-connectable TFT instrument panel supports turn-by-turn navigation, weather information, and call and SMS alerts.In terms of design, the Aerox-E clearly carries over the sporty DNA of its petrol sibling. The aggressive twin LED headlights and sleek LED taillights remain familiar, maintaining a sharp, dynamic look. What is new, however, is the addition of a TFT dashboard with smartphone connectivity, replacing the conventional LCD seen on the ICE version. Yamaha says it has also tweaked the ergonomics to make the electric version more engaging to drive. The electric version also gets a few minor changes, including blue accents all around, and underseat storage space has been reduced due to the battery placement and revised styling.
