Mollywood actor Revathy Asha Kelunni and Padmapriya Janakiraman Quit the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA). The two actors announced their resignations via a joint statement shared on Instagram on Monday.Actors said they remain hopeful the organization can enact meaningful reform. However, after waiting for the changes, they decided to terminate their prime membership.

A joint statement explains the decision

In their statement, Revathy and Padmapriya said they have sought a professional environment based on fairness, safety and accountability.Their statement read: “Today we resign our principal membership of AMMA Not out of anger, not out of haste. We’ve worked hard for this industry for decades, and we care about what’s next for it. Over the years our demands have been simple: safety, dignity, responsibility and equal treatment. Instead, we were met with silence and a slow realization that the current state of affairs in this institution was not ready to change. “They further wrote, “Malayalam cinema will always be what we love and work for. AMMA continues to face organizational disorganization

These resignations come at a time of significant developments within AMMA. The organization recently witnessed the resignation of 17 executive committee members, led by actors Rita Menon. The decision was taken after a no-confidence motion was tabled and extensive discussion at the association’s annual general meeting in Kochi.Following the resignation of the executive committee, AMMA’s full body appointed an ad hoc committee to oversee the affairs of the organization. The ad hoc team is led by Ramesh Pisharody.
