Naval operations require highly specialized technical skills, and commanders believe the four-year cap provides very little return on the extensive training these sailors invest. However, there are reports that both the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force are working hard to increase their respective absorption rates to 50%. The new method recruits young people aged 17.5 to 21 years old as “Agniveers”, with a contract service period of four years and six months of intensive training. At the end of four years, up to 25% are absorbed into permanent cadres for a 15-year term. The remaining 75% were given a one-time tax-free “Seva Nidhi” benefit of about Rs 11.71 lakh upon exiting the force, which was accrued through government-matched monthly salary contributions, but without any lifetime pension or gratuity benefit.No official confirmation yetIt is crucial for defense aspirants and candidates to note that there has been absolutely no formal confirmation or formal policy revision from the Department of Defense regarding these changes.
