Christopher Nolan admitted during an appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” that he couldn’t direct a romantic comedy movie because making people laugh is one of the hardest things. “I think making a romantic comedy would be very difficult. I love watching those movies. But, no, I think comedy, like the people who direct comedy, the people who do comedy, I think it’s one of the hardest things in the world to make people laugh,” he said on the show, suggesting that filming a romantic comedy is much more difficult than most people think. “Especially the risks they take. When you make a movie…you know, if I showed a movie to people and maybe they didn’t react to something in it, I’d be like, ‘Ah, they don’t get it. Whatever.’ When you make a comedy, there’s no hiding it,” Nolan joked, causing Fallon to laugh at his response.

In interviews, Nolan recalled almost losing the original footage for The Odyssey. The incident occurred during airport customs when staff opened a large IMAX format film box, risking the film being exposed to direct light. Since film is extremely sensitive, open containers run the risk of being destroyed in unconditional conditions.
