Vinoth reveals the various obstacles his team faced that led to the film’s delay, information on how they overcame the issues, and addresses the controversy surrounding the leaked version of the film.

Talking about the review process in an interview with Cinema Vikatan, H Vinoth said that the team started the certification work earlier than usual. “Normally, we start the censorship process around 10 days before release. This time, we started almost 20 days earlier. The board immediately watched the film and told us there was nothing wrong with the film itself. They agreed to give us a U/A 16+ certificate if we removed some violent scenes. We took their advice and started making those changes,” he said.The director explained that the editing involved computer-generated work that required an extra day. “After completing these changes, we came back with an updated version. At that time, we were asked to make more edits. We agreed to these. But when we tried to upload the revised version, we were unable to access the online portal. We informed them through phone calls and emails and even contacted the headquarters,” Vinos added.

VinosThe team later learned a complaint had been filed against the film, causing the process to be put on hold. “We were told that the portal was blocked due to complaints received against the film. By that time, theaters, distributors and fans had spent a lot of money to prepare for the release. We had to answer everyone’s questions, but we ourselves did not know whether the film would receive a certificate,” he said.He further claimed that the team decided to file a lawsuit in court after several failed attempts to clarify the facts. “We received neither approval nor rejection. It was only after filing the case that we got a reply that the film would be re-censored. I believe the issue was never with the censor board. There could be other reasons behind the delay but I can’t name anyone without evidence. The law has its own powers and I don’t want to file charges without evidence,” Vinoth said.

Apart from the censorship delay, H Vinoth also opened up about the film’s piracy issues and explained why Vijay chose not to respond publicly. “Mr. Vijay did not tweet as it would have turned into unnecessary criticism. We dealt with the matter legally, found the person responsible and he is now in jail. Bail has not been granted yet,” the director said. He further clarified that the leak was being treated purely as a legal matter and would be investigated by the police following a complaint. Vinoth added, “I don’t think Mr. Vijay himself was involved in it as that might deviate from the truth and invite criticism.” With censorship hurdles and piracy controversies behind him, Jana Nayagan is all set to hit theaters on July 23 and fans are eagerly waiting to see Vijay’s final film on the big screen.
