The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting announced the winners of the 72nd National Film Awards in New Delhi on Saturday, which aims to recognize the best achievements in the Indian film industry in feature films, non-feature films and film writing. The award recognizes films certified by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) between January 1 and December 31, 2024.One of the biggest highlights of this year’s honors is Yami Gautam For her wonderful performance in “Article 370”, she won the Best Actress Award. The film also became the biggest winner at the awards ceremony, taking home the prestigious Best Feature Film award.Sharing the Best Actor honor is Kartik Aaryan For his transformative performance in Chandu Champion mammoth Known for her critically acclaimed role in the Malayalam horror drama Brahma Yugam.
Article 370 Becomes the biggest winner
Article 370, directed by Aditya Suhas Jambhale, won the coveted Best Feature Film award besides winning the Best Actress award for Yami Gautam. The political thriller was widely appreciated upon its release for its storytelling and performances.
Kartik Aaryan shares Best Actor award with Mammootty
The jury awarded two performances in the Best Actor category. Kartik Aaryan bagged the Chandu Champion title with critics praising his physical transformation and commitment to playing Paralympian Murlikant Petkar. Veteran star Mammootty received the honor for her memorable performance in Rahul Sadasivan’s Bramayugam, a role that won widespread acclaim from the audience and critics.
Other major winners
Director Rajkumar Periasamy won the best director award for Tamil blockbuster “Amaran”, while Nag Ashwin’s sci-fi epic “Kalki: 2898 AD” was named the best popular film for providing wholesome entertainment.Actor-filmmaker Randeep Hooda marked a major milestone in his directorial career by winning the Best Directorial Debut Award for Swatantrya Veer Savarkar.In the Hindi film category, Srikanth, directed by Tushar Hiranandani and starring Rajkummar Rao, Jyotika and Alaya F, won the Best Hindi Feature Film award.The award for Best Film Critic (Hindi) was awarded to Sanjeev Shrivastava.
A year of critical acclaim for the show
The 2024 qualifying year saw several Indian films winning critical acclaim at home and abroad. Films such as “We Imagine as Light” and “Rapata Ms.” gained global recognition while Sai Pallavi (“Amaran”), Kani Khushruti (“We Imagine as Light”, “Girls Will Be Girls”), Shraddha Kapoor (“Street 2”), Alia Bhatt (“Jigra”) and Shraddha Kapoor (“Street 2”), Alia Bhatt (“Jigra”) and Prithviraj Suan (Kanviraj) in the “Awards Season” and other actors’ acting roles.
