Rasika Dugal It’s great to be back in the world of ‘Mirzapur’, this time on the big screen. In a recent interview, she talked about being part of what she considers an unprecedented moment in Indian entertainment history, the show’s rigorous filming schedule, reuniting with the original cast and crew, and the pressure of meeting the expectations of the series’ loyal fanbase.
Rasika Dugal calls the film a landmark, unprecedented moment
Describing Mirzapur: The Movie as a landmark moment, Rasika expressed his excitement at being a part of a project that breaks new ground. She told India Today, “I’m delighted to be a part of the first time in our country, in our industry, that a series has been made into a film. I think that happened in the West. Peaky Blinders was what happened after the series was completed.” The opposite happened in the West, where a movie was made into a series. But this is the first time in our country. So I’m happy that I can be a part of it”.
Rasika Dugal hopes OTT audiences can come to theaters to watch the show
The actor admitted that she is equally keen to see how audiences respond to the transition from OTT to the big screen. “I’m curious to see how audiences respond to this, and I hope our very loyal streaming audience will come to theaters as well,” she added.
Rasika Dugal says filming the movie was less hectic than the series
Although the cast and crew remain the same, Rasika noted that the filming pace of the film was a far cry from the frenetic energy of the series. “The crew was exactly the same. It was just that we had more time to shoot. In this series, I felt like something was falling on my head because I was shooting five or six scenes in a day. I had just finished shooting one and I had no idea what was going on. I barely realized what was happening and then I was rushed into a room to change into a sari and then thrown back into another scene. It almost feels like I’m doing a theatrical performance where you fly through it and come back. That’s pretty much what it feels like. And it felt heavy,” she recalled.
Rasika Dugal Memories diviendu Sharma’s reaction to season 1
She recalled this feeling she shared with co-star Divyenndu Sharma in the first season. “I remember talking to Divyenndu when we were filming the first season. We only had two minutes and Divyenndu looked at me and said, ‘Yaar yeh thoda zyada dark nahi ho raha hai (Isn’t this a little too dark?)’ and I said, ‘Thank you for making it clear’ because I was so tired that I couldn’t even make it clear,” she said.
