Ranbir Kapoor has spoken about the emotional pressure of playing the role of Lord Rama in Ramayana, admitting that his first reaction was one of fear and uncertainty. During a panel discussion at San Diego Comic-Con with director Nitesh Tiwari, co-star Yash and producer Namit Malhotra, the actor said that initial self-doubt slowly turned into gratitude as he took on the ambitious mythological epic.
Ranbir Kapoor reflects on accepting the role
Ranbir recalled his reaction when he was first approached about the film, admitting that he questioned whether he was worthy of playing one of the most revered characters in Indian mythology.He said: “I remember when this movie was first handed to me, I had a lot of fear, a lot of doubt. ‘Can I do it? Am I capable enough?’ But I think that doubt turned into gratitude very early on. I saw it as a blessing, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and a moral responsibility.”The actor also spoke about the eternal significance of the epic and Lord Rama’s lasting impact on generations.He added: “The Ramayana is ingrained in our subconscious. For over 4,000 years, Lord Rama has been the keeper of conscience for millions of people around the world. He embodies the triumph of the human spirit in the face of adversity. He represents courage, compassion, forgiveness, justice, and just the opportunity to represent that is daunting.”Ranbir shared that when the production of the film began, he realized that responsibility could only be fulfilled through sincerity and belief. According to him, the entire cast and crew remain committed to presenting the story honestly.“I understood early on that this was going to take a lot of faith, a lot of belief, a lot of truth and noble intentions. Our entire cast and crew had a noble intention to tell this story as authentically as possible,” he said.
Yash comes out in support of Ranbir Kapoor
Co-star Yash also addressed the discussions surrounding Ranbir’s casting, saying the actor’s humility alone proved why he was right for the role. He praised Ranbir for his dedication and acknowledged the challenges faced in portraying Lord Rama.Yash said, “No one in this world can say, ‘I am qualified to play Lord Rama’. The fact that he (Ranbir) has said the same thing says it all. He is a brilliant actor. Playing Lord Rama is not easy and the way he works is not easy and I have huge respect for him.”
‘Ramayana’ trailer release delayed
The team is expected to debut the world’s first Ramayana trailer at San Diego Comic-Con. However, producer Namit Malhotra announced that the launch of the project has been delayed due to its partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment.Sharing the latest news on social media, he wrote, “Today is a very special moment for us at Ramayana, and through our partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment, my dream of taking Ramayana around the world has now become a reality. In light of the above, we will launch our trailer globally at a later date. “He further added, “This will be a proud moment in the over one hundred year history of Indian cinema and Ramayana will be shown to the world like any major global Hollywood film. This is special because it opens doors for people around the world to discover the richness of our culture and our stories with new pride and enthusiasm.”
About Ramayana
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana is planned to be a two-part film saga. The film stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash in a pivotal role. The cast also includes Ravie Dubey, Sunny Deol, Rakul Preet Singh, Lara Dutta, Arun Govil, Vivek Oberoi and Kunal Kapoor. The first part is scheduled to be released in November this year.
